The Adjutant General
Capt. Alex Blair
Dear Mr.. Harris:
Tuesday evening when we got our paper and saw the handsome picture of Alex Blair on the front page and read that he was missing in Northern Africa there was many a tear shed by mothers that have boys in the service.
When I saw this picture the first thing that came to my mind was an expression my son Austin said last fall when Alex picture first came out in the paper. Those two Blair boys played football for six or seven years with my two boys, Hoots and Austin. As we all know they were fortunate in having wealthy parents much more than my boys and most of the rest of the squad. Often when a boy of their means would come out for football they would feel far above the poor boys and would want preference shown to them. But our good old horse sense Cooksie Crafton would soon show them where they belonged. But it was not so with the Blair boys. They went out to play football and treated the poorest boy on the squad as their equal. I truly believe those two boys held the love and respect of every boy on the entire squad for about six years, I often heard others as well as my own boys talking that way when they were playing ball.
Now this fall when Austin Robards was home on a furlough Alex Blair's picture came out with a word of praise for his work. The first thing Austin said was: It will never go to his head. He may kill lots of Japs and bomb many a thing and if he ever gets back and meets us, with the old squad he will say it wasn't me it was maybe the fine make of the airplane or the ideal weather, but he will never admit it was his greatness that performed the unusual things. Austin said he never caused the team to win, but half of the squad would soon try to claim the honor but Alex was always there on the spot to claim the honor for some other member of the squad, not for himself.
Now Mr. Harris as Alex Blair use to work for you I wish you would personally call for prayer from every Christian in Henderson to pray earnestly, if he is a prisoner, for some way he may be released.
